While we all get down in the dumps now and then, actual depression is a serious illness that affects millions of people around the world.
In fact, in the U.S. alone, “major depressive disorder affects approximately 14.8 million American adults, or about 6.7 percent of the U.S. population,” according to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.
Since most of the signs of depression may seem quite negative, it can be easy to take offense or write these people off completely. But by recognizing the signs, we can actually be there for our loved ones, and give them the love and support they need.
